2012 PREVIEW:

Ed Carpenter Racing is a new team entering the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2012, although it is, basically, a revamp of the defunct Vision Racing team.  Driver Ed Carpenter tries his hand at being an owner and a driver at the same time.  Ed Carpenter Racing has hired open wheel veteran owner and engineer Derrick Walker as technical director for the team which should give this team a good jump start.  Ed Carpenter should be a force to be reckoned with on oval tracks in 2012 given his victory at Kentucky Speedway in 2011 holding off Dario Franchitti at the line, but he will continue to struggle on the road and street courses.  The benchmark for their season will be whether Carpenter can consistently improve his qualifying and finishing positions in these races which just happen to dominate the schedule.  Although the schedule is not ideal, a new car and a Chevrolet powerplant could level the playing field in Carpenter’s favor.

2012 PREDICTION:

Carpenter will have difficulty cracking the top 20 in points, but steady improvement will make this first season for the race team a success!
